Over 2,500 competitors came together at Catani Gardens in St Kilda today for the final race of the 2XU Triathlon Series for 20-21.
After early rain on Saturday, Melbourne turned on the charm with picture perfect conditions to see out the end of the 2020-21 series. The morning opened with the Fun Tri, which included the Victorian All Schools Triathlon Championships, Aqua Bike, Olympic Distance and Sprint Distance.
The in male elite category, Kurt Fryer edged out race four winner Cassidy Shaw with a time of 1:53:12.8, Shaw followed in 1:54:53.4, while Craig Davis rounded out the top-3 with a time of 1:55:26.4. In the female elite Emma Jeffcoat was first down the shute in a time of 2:05:00.6, Tracy Clinch followed in a time of 2:08:14.8, while Sophie Perry went back-to-back with another third-place finish in a time of 2:12:25.6.
At the conclusion of the 2020-21 Series, Sophie Perry (47), Emma Hogan (39) and Emma Jeffcoat (35) finished top-3 in the female elite category. While in the male elite category, Cassidy Shaw (54), Mitchell Kibby(33), Jeremy Drake (26) closed the series top-3.
The female open category saw Nicola Wadey from Greensborough Triathlon Club take the victory in a time of 2:21:58.7. Angelica Armellini backed up her top-3 finish from race four to place second in a time of 2:33:34.0, followed by Meghan De Boer in third with a time of 2:46:41.9. Over in the male open, Ruben De Silva-Smith, Tom Paganoni and Tom Paganoni went one, two, three, with a time of 2:04:02.8, 2:09:13.5 and 2:09:47.3, respectively.
