Triathletes from across the state will descend on Echuca Moama this week for the Morley Auto Group Multisport Weekend.
Hosted by the Echuca Moama Triathlon Club, the Morley Auto Group Multisport Weekend has evolved into one of regional Victoria’s premier multisport events in the central Murray-Goulburn region.
Now in its 22nd year, the weekend offers a truly unique event experience with more than 200 athletes competing across two competition days.
Echuca Moama Triathlon Club President, Steven Loader, is pleased to see the event return after what has been a turbulent 12 months for community sport across the state.
“An enormous undertaking has been made from our Race Committee, headed up by Race Director Shane Kervin, to get the event to this stage where it’s both viable and a safe community event.”
The weekend will see racing enthusiasts young and old head to the start line for the annual sprint triathlon, a Triathlon Victoria State Series event, junior triathlon and wharf to winery swim.
The swim will see competitors splash their way down the Murray River, past the 156-year-old historic red gum wharf and a fleet of Paddle Steamers.
The bike leg will take riders through the high street and in a carnival-like atmosphere while the run will journey athletes along the river banks to Aquatic Reserve and back through the Port of Echuca.
This year a new trophy will also be unveiled that is unique to the Echuca Moama region. The trophy has been crafted from red gum that originated from the hull of the Paddle Steamer Success. The PS Success was built in Moama in 1877 and worked the Murray and Darling rivers carrying wool and supplies.
“This event would not be possible without the incredible support of our event partners. The Echuca-Moama Triathlon Club is genuinely grateful for their valued, generous and ongoing support,” said Loader.
“This community and its locals are second to none in what they give to support events like this. Given the past 12 months, this will be a celebration and somewhat relief to see the first major sporting event in the community. Our club is very proud to be a leader, somewhat, in the opportunity to relaunch some normality back into day to day life for people.”
The weekend is proudly supported by the Morley Auto Group, Campaspe Shire, Moama Bowling Club, Andrew Peace Wines, Ash Hall Cycles, Coolabah Turf, Morrisons Winery and Restaurant and Radiant Media.
The Morley Auto Group Multisport Weekend will be held on February 6 and 7, 2021 and offers destination racing at its best.
The event will operate with a COVID Safe Plan and implement measures throughout the weekend in accordance with state government requirements.
