In what was a less than ideal 12-months for Victorian sport, it’s been exciting to watch the transition our community has made to return to COVIDsafe racing.
Like many of us, the global pandemic caused many personal and professional challenges for athletes, clubs and event organisers around the state. As we work to close out the 2020-21 season, one we hope will be a calendar at almost full capacity, we wanted to highlight some events this month that we’d love to see our community get along to and support.
The Fernwood Fitness Women’s Triathlon
Sunday, February 14.
Run by the Albury Wodonga Triathlon Club, this decade-old event continues to build the profile of triathlon in the local community and provide a solid platform to promote triathlon as an inclusive sport option for women. The event consists of a 300m swim, 9km ride and a 3km run and aims to encourage women to work toward testing themselves and work towards a Sprint Distance or Endurance Course. It’s a great event to get you started in triathlon
IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong
Sunday, February 21.
Australia’s leading triathletes are set to return to racing in Geelong this month, with final preparations underway for IRONMAN 70.3 on Sunday, February 21. While this year’s event will be spectator free, it provides the chance for local triathletes to shine on home soil.
The Barwon Heads Triathlon
Sunday, February 28.
One of Victoria’s most beautiful destination races is the Barwon Heads Triathlon which returns to the Bellarine Peninsula this month for the sixth consecutive year. The event attracts all levels of fitness and ability, including some of Victoria’s top age-group triathletes. The swim starts on the sand next to the Ozone Jetty, the bike course takes riders along 13th Beach Road, and the run leg is out over the Barwon Heads footbridge with the turnaround mark at 2km. Close to 750 competitors race the event, which includes approximately 300 first-time triathletes.
Maffra Triathlon
Sunday, February 28
Another fabulous regional event in the heart of Gippsland to pop in your racing calendar. The Riviera Triathlon Club and Maffra Lawn Tennis Club have come together to bring you the Maffra Triathlon and a fantastic morning of swim, bike and run at Maffra Pool. Race as an individual or in a team. Adults and kids distances are available with all ages and levels of fitness catered for.
