Huntingtower in Waverley has a successful year 9 unit called ‘triathlon’; where all year 9 students participate in swim, bike and run twice per week as a class across term 1, culminating in an event on school grounds.
With a focus on providing students an experience through which they develop confidence, resilience and healthy habits of physical activity, T2G has added a further layer of triathlon coaching expertise through Ambassador Steve Davis.
Steve offers plenty of knowledge and experience in the multisport, assisting the students with plenty of tips and tricks along the way. Steve also encourages the students to put their training to the test and attending open events
on the triathlon calendar; notably the Victorian Schools Triathlon Championship.
“The Tri2gether program, run through Triathlon Victoria has been fundamental in allowing us to deliver a fantastic Triathlon Program to over 90 students for the past couple of years. The Tri2gether ambassadors come with a wealth of triathlon knowledge and experience, as well as passion for the sport. This has meant that the sessions they run are always of a high standard whilst still taking in account varying ability levels. Having this program has allowed us to offer students to a number of authentic triathlon experiences such as open water swimming and racing in the Vic All Schools triathlon.” Talia Goddard, Huntingtower Co-Ed Day & Boarding School
“It was an extremely positive experience from my side as a coach. Getting to promote the sport among students brings benefits that go beyond what can be measured. You can see young athletes develop self-confidence, discipline, love for the sport and self-awareness for their own personal wellbeing. It is impossible to describe the excitement of seeing a person first nervous about cycling, running or swimming becoming strong in that sport and developing the skills to grow in that area. In the end all athletes learn that it is not so much about beating other athletes, but to challenge themselves and gain a healthy lifestyle.” Nestor Rivera, Tri2gether Ambassador
