Dear all,
I hope you are keeping safe during this extraordinary period. Your personal welfare and that of all Victorians is the #1 priority so, please take care and look after those closest to you.
At Triathlon Victoria, our work in responding to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues. Like you, we are following the daily COVID numbers closely and wishing the leaders across Government and the community the strength and resolve to make decisions that protect all Victorians and Australians.
Our circumstances are not unique; you too are almost certainly facing the same issues within your club, workplace, and family life. We are all in this together, and I implore you to reach out or seek help depending on your circumstances. Our fundraising campaign says it all #payitforward – supporting those doing it tough.
I didn’t imagine the 2020-21 season commencing in the way it has, but I can assure you that the team at Triathlon Victoria are working every day to support the triathlon community right now, keep us engaged and inspired during the stage 3 restrictions and get us closer to the resumption of competition.
Important things to know:
- The team has been working remotely since March and continue to remain active and available via email and phone to you.
- Rob Ward, Rob Wallace and myself are all operating on reduced hours. As such, we have decided to close the Triathlon Victoria office on Fridays until further notice. Any incoming calls (on Fridays) will now divert across the national phone system where our state and national counterparts will service your needs.
- We continue to plan for the resumption of events and our ‘return to the racing’ strategy has been reviewed by the Victorian Governments Return to Play Expert Advisory Panel and ready to enact when restrictions are eased. We continue to engage with local and state Government in relation to the Victorian Duathlon Series and the commencement of the triathlon season and will continue to keep you informed.
- We are encouraged by the commitment of the triathlon community to stick with us and renew their membership for 2020-21 and will begin contacting non-renewed members from next week.
- We encourage clubs to be on the lookout for members who are experiencing financial hardship and where appropriate lodge a request to the Pay It Forward initiative for financial support. Simply submit the required information (President/Head Coach) and we’ll organise a coupon code so members can remain connected and supported to their triathlon club.
- We are not producing any advice about participation in swim, bike, run other than to follow government directions. As an organisation, we are not interested in looking for ways around the clear and simple messages of the Government, for the latest click here
Finally, it’s reasonably obvious, but important to reiterate, that we must continue to contribute to the solution by minimising our movements, taking the advice from the Government and protect each other.
If you require any assistance during this time, please contact us and let us know how we can help.
Be kind, be calm, be safe,
Grant Cosgriff
Executive Director
