Up and coming junior triathletes have the opportunity to join Triathlon Victoria’s elite pathway program with applications for its 2020-21 Development Program (TVDP) now open.
The TVDP is an elite pathway that is structured to nurture and develop junior athletes who seek to progress their triathlon journey and the opportunity to represent Victoria in state, national and international competition.
The TVDP delivers a nurturing and supportive environment for athletes aged 13 to 23 years as they strive to develop physical, mental and social skills through a group environment of like-minded athletes.
TVDP athlete and elite junior, Oscar Dart, has found the program beneficial in supporting his racing and career endeavours in triathlon.
“Being with the TVDP has allowed me to become more confident in my racing,” said Dart.
“For me, the most enjoyable part of the TVDP is friendships. It’s connected me with lots of like-minded people from all over Victoria,”
“I really liked the experience of travelling with the team because of all the friendships and the feeling of being part of the team in triathlon, which is ultimately an individual sport.”
Junior athletes selected in the TVDP learn sport-specific tactics, explore a variety of training, compete, and ultimately be the best they can be. The TVDP fosters an inclusive team environment and provides access to domestic events, such as the National Junior Triathlon Series (NJTS).
As a direct pathway towards Triathlon Australia’s elite programs, the TVDP also aims to provide access and information to members, parents and coaches through field specialists (e.g. training, nutrition, medical – Doctor, Physiotherapy, Podiatry), education sessions, training tools along with associated product discounts.
Triathlon Victoria’s focus is on supporting athletes to strive to be their best. Together with helping athletes and parents work with their home coaches to support athlete development and provide financial support in pursuing state and national representation.
