Triathlon in Victoria: racing opportunities aplenty

With the Victorian triathlon season far from over February brings a race month that’s full of something for everyone, with the upcoming weekend providing numerous racing opportunities across the state.

The beautiful coastal town of Barwon Heads will come to life for their marquee event with a full field of over 700 competitors set to race on Sunday.

The sleepy hollow of Eagle Point will also be hosting their triathlon. The transition is situated on the beautiful shores of Lake King and only for a few sections of the bike ride do you lose sight of the magnificent waterway. The fun tri will open the race, followed by the sprint distance championships.

The Wild Dog Triathlon Club’s Summer Series continues this Saturday afternoon until mid-March. The club runs a free BBQ each week for all participants and offers a family-friendly atmosphere. Eltham’s Triathlon Series also continues this weekend with race three. $20 per adults and $10 per child, which includes post-race pizzas.

The Westen Suburbs Triathlon Club is introducing a women’s buddy and bring the family to their next event on February 16. Families can enjoy what Altona Beachfront with waterfront inflatables will be on offer thanks to the Altona-Village Traders Association.

Baker Institute IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong rounds out this month’s events. It has long been the best-kept secret on the Oceania circuit, with a stunning venue, world-class course, vibrant community and loads of local support. With only one week to go, there is so much on the line at this year’s event.

  • 80 slots for Taupo, which includes an additional 25 slots for female athletes as part of their Women for Tri Program.
  • the National Long Course Championship title on offer, and
  • the Victorian Long Course State Championships title (and state series points).

To not respect the prestige of the National Long Course Championships, Triathlon Victoria will present the State Championship medals at our Awards Breakfast on May 17 and publish the Victorian Long Course placegetters soon after the event. We thank IRONMAN for their support of triathlon in Victoria and wish all competitors a great experience.
