Perfect conditions greeted athletes at Sandringham for Race 2 of the 2XU Triathlon Series.
The five-race event got underway at 6.45 am with the kids triathlon, followed by the Fun Tri and Aqua Bike. Olympic Distance and the Sprint Series rounded out the morning’s events, which commenced at 7.45 am and 8:45 am respectively.
The top-25 athletes in each age group were also awarded points towards qualification for the Australian Age Group Team at the World Championships at Edmonton, Canada, in 2020.
Marcel Walkington secured a back-to-back victory with a time of 0:56:14.2 to take out the men’s sprint, while Lotte Wilms took out the women’s with a time of 1:01:38.6. In the open Olympic Distance, Levi Hauwert took home the gold with a time of 2:01:43.2.
In the Junior Elite (Senior 15 – 18) Lucinda Rourke and Nick Frisby claimed the female and male title with a time of 1:05:08.3 and 0:58:16.2 respectively.
The 2XU Triathlon Series is open to anyone who wishes to challenge themselves at Victoria’s longest-running triathlon series. The next event will be Race 3 at St Kilda on Sunday 12th January 2020. Enter now.
